Darvin Cloin Interim Site Manager/Engineering Manager

Heritage Custom Fabricators

What is something  your co-workers may not know about you?

I have served in the Marine Corps and U.S. Army and retired after 22 years of service.

What are your favorite hobbies?

Model aircraft and Mycology.

Where did you go to school or training?

I’ve not had any formal training for the work I do at Heritage.  I’ve purchased and read books, asked lots of questions, and learned by the help of others I’ve worked with.

Before working at Nix, what was the most unusual or interesting job you ever had?

I was a shoe salesman, like Al Bundy.

Are you married?

Yes, for 30 years.

Do you have any children?

Yes, 2.  My son Drake Cloin is 29 and he is a brick mason at Bungee Masonry.  My daughter Sky Cloin is 24 and she is an elementary school teacher at Princeton Intermediate School.

What is your favorite thing about working at Nix?

The values, ethics, and beliefs they have reflect my own.

What has been your favorite project you’ve designed or worked on so far at Nix?

We built a large smoker for Klinker’s restaurant.

Tell us a funny or embarrassing story while you were at work.

I once turned on water to fill up the ESAB burn table (we cut under water with plasma). Since the water was going to take a while to fill up, I went to run a lathe while waiting.  I forgot it was filling up and returned a couple hours later to find the tank overflowing with water and the weld shop covered in water!
