Employee Spotlight: June 2021

Bryce Matthews, Machinist

Heritage Machining Division

What is something your co-workers may not know about you?

I have my best friend’s mom’s name tattooed on me.  She bet me I wouldn’t do it so I had to!

What are your favorite hobbies?

I enjoy all types of hunting – especially competition coon hunting.  I also enjoy watching dirt track racing, boating, and spending time with my fiancée.

Where did you go to school or training?

Princeton Community High School
Vincennes University

What is your favorite thing about working at Nix Companies?

The camaraderie and atmosphere.  Most days are very laid back and my co-workers are more like friends.  The Heritage Machining Division group is very close since we are so small.

Before working at Nix, what was the most unusual or interesting job you ever had?

Scrapping metal in high school and college.

Are you married?

Not yet but will be Nov. 6th, 2021.

Do you have any children?

No.

What has been your favorite project you’ve worked on at Nix?

The machine work on a large hoist we did for a customer.  There were lots of big components that I got to machine.  I also like doing the one-off parts that walk-in customers bring to us and need re-made.

Tell us a funny or embarrassing story while you were at work.

My first day at Nix I was given a job of turning a very simple part on the lathe.  It had been three years since I had machined anything and I had forgotten which tool I needed to turn the part. I asked a co-worker for help and he questioned if I was actually a machinist or not.  He hasn’t let me live that day down.
