Ryan Schmitt, Senior Machinist

Gear & Machine Division – Princeton

What is something your co-workers may not know about you?

My co-workers may not know that one of my hobbies is working on model trains.

What are your favorite hobbies?

I enjoy camping and boating with my family as well as making cornhole boards.

Where did you go to school or training?

I went Evansville Memorial for High School and also completed a 4-year apprenticeship in machining.

Are you married?

Yes, coming up on 15 years.

Do you have kids?

I have 3 step-children.

Before working at Nix, what was the most unusual or interesting job you ever had?

I worked for a machining company that made items for ARs and a lot of cool things for the government. A lot of things I can’t talk about.

Tell us a funny or embarrassing story while you were at work.

Early on when I first started, I was cleaning one of the machines and fell into the grease pit. I was
covered in grease the rest of the day from head-to-toe. At the time I didn’t think it was funny, but I guess I can laugh at it now.
